Sideways in Finland

I was so fortunate to be able to spend a long week-end in Kuusamo (Finland) in the Juha Kankkunen Driving Academy. The 4-times World Champion was there, coordinating the course. We drove the very efficient Subaru Impreza’s ‘Tommy Makinen’, powered by their 300bhp engine.

My instructor was former Mitsubishi and Ford works driver Tony Gardemeister. He sat next to me during the whole week-end.We got along so well, and thanks to his guidance, my driving skills on ice improved minute by minute.

And fun we had! Sideways all day long at 120 km/h, I couldn’t believe I could ever do that. I recommend every racing enthusiast to join such a course, cos I want to go back, absolutely.
