Red Bull and Honda protege Yuki Tsunoda (20 years old) was promoted to the AlphaTauri Formula One team after a sole season in Formula 2 and immediately impressed by scoring two points for 9th on his F1 debut in Bahrain.

The Japanese driver started 13th on the grid, but produced a combattive display which saw him duel with two-time world champion Fernando Alonso before taking ninth place from Lance Stroll on the final lap of the race.

Tsunoda recalls : “So, into Turn 1, I just trusted Fernando’s skill and just launched it – you know, like a rookie.”

Formula 1 boss Ross Brawn has praised AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda for his impressive debut in Bahrain, claiming the Japanese youngster is the “best rookie F1 has had for years.”

One to watch, Yuki Tsunoda, all through this F1 season.
