For the 1974 Formula One season, Team Hesketh entered its own car after running James Hunt in a March the year before. Hunt was fast and scored the team’s first podiums.
McLaren were running three cars. Emerson Fittipaldi came over from Lotus in the Texaco-Marlboro car. And the two other cars were in Yardley livery, for Denny Hulme and for Mike Hailwood.
James Hunt showed a lot of potential, especially in the second half of the season, with two podium finishes in Sweden and Austria. Mike Hailwood participated in 11 races, and was very consistent in the top 10, his best result being a fine third in South Africa.
