James Hunt (1947-1993) was a British racing driver who won the 1976 Formula One World Championship. A fantastic personality, a big heart and a heavy right foot, and a legendary final at Mount Fuji in 1976 in the pouring rain. After retiring from racing in 1979, Hunt became a Grand Prix commentator for the BBC.
He entered 93 F1 Grand Prix (92 starts), scored 10 wins, 23 podiums, 14 pole positions and 179 career points.
James Hunt on Life and Racing:
- “The closer you are to death, the more alive you feel.”
- “My first priority is to finish above rather than beneath the ground.”
- “If I get into a car on a circuit, I drive as fast as I can; that’s it!”
- “The sum of life needs to be pleasure. What’s the point of having a million medals, cups and planes if you don’t have any fun?”
