Jacques Laffite (born 21 November 1943 in Paris) is a French former racing driver who competed in Formula One from 1974 to 1986. He achieved six Grand Prix wins in 176 starts, all while driving for the Ligier team. Picture above: Laffite and Guy Ligier, in 1986.

Always nice and gentle, Jacques Laffite remembers his former team boss: Guy Ligier was my boss first, then my friend. We were in symbiosis. He was like a second father in my racing career. He really cared about me. He was a fantastic person human-wise and he was a friend you could always count on, very reliable and courageous. I was very lucky to meet him. I first did Le Mans with him and then I was part of the great F1 adventure.”

Jacques Laffite and Guy Ligier – with Didier Pironi in 1980, picture here-under – formed a legendary pairing in French motorsport and in Formula One.
