For the 1979 Formula One season, Ligier gave up with the old Matra engine and ran Cosworths instead while Gérard Ducarouge was asked to design the new JS11. The car was immediately competitive and Jacques Laffite won the Argentinian and the Brazilian Grand Prix at the start of the season. He was leading the drivers’ world championship.
Gérard Ducarouge , born on in Volesvre and died on, is a French engineer, specialized in motor sports, having been for almost 20 years, one of the leading figures in the world of Formula 1.
