The French-born American Harry Schell amassed 56 Formula One Grand Prix starts, after gunning for the Finnish Air Force, serving in the American Army and opening his own bar in Paris.
With his Formula One debut at the 1950 Monaco Grand Prix, Schell became the first American driver to start a Formula One Grand Prix. Harry Schell contested a total of 57 Grand Prix for the Maserati, Ferrari, Vanwall… teams, and scored 32 championship points.
Sadly, Schell died after crashing his Cooper T51 during practice for the non-championship 1960 BRDC International Trophy at Silverstone.
