Stuck, Peterson and BMW Motorsport

While both pursuing a career in Formula 1, Hans Stuck and Ronnie Peterson (picture-above, with team manager Charly Lamm in the background) found time to compete as team-mates in a works BMW 320 Turbo, at the 1978 Silverstone 6 Hours, but were forced to retire.

Hans Stuck was active on four fronts during this 1978 season. He raced in Formula One for the Villiger Shadow team, in the World Sportscar Championship for BMW Motorsport, while also racing in the DTM, for BMW Alpina and for McLaren North America.

Ronnie Peterson was a Formula 1 driver for the John Player Special Team Lotus in 1978, and also raced in endurance racing for BMW Motorsport and McLaren North America. Sadly, the Swede was killed in a terrible pileup at the start of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza…
