In 1997, Gerhard Berger drove the Benetton B197 alongside Jean Alesi. After a fine second place in Brazil, Berger later in the season scored Benetton’s and his final Grand Prix victory at the age of 37 at Hockenheim (picture above), coming back after a 3-race layoff following illness and the death of his father in a light aircraft accident. For all these reasons, it was an emotional win for the Austrian who then announced his decision to retire from competition at the end of the season.
