José Froilán Gonzalez was an Argentine racing driver, particularly notable for scoring Ferrari’s first win in Formula One, at the 1951 British Grand Prix.
He scored two Grand Prix wins in 26 starts, winning twice the British Grand Prix (1951 and 1954). In 1954, he also won the Le Mans 24 Hours for Ferrari with French driver Maurice Trintignant.
Because of his strong stature, Gonzalez’s nickname was “The Pampas Bull’. He later said with humour: “In the old days drivers were fat and tires were skinny.”
