Didier Pironi and Jacques Laffite formed a very strong pairing in Guy Ligier’s team in 1980. They drove the Ligier JS11/15, an evolution of the JS11 designed by Gérard Ducarouge.

Didier Pironi, joining Ligier after two seasons with Tyrrell, came with the firm ambition to shine. He will do so by winning his fifth race for the French team, the Belgian Grand Priix at Zolder. It was the first Grand Prix victory of his career and his only one of the season, before accepting the offer to join the Scuderia Ferrari. He finished 5th in the standings.

Jacques Laffite, present at Ligier since the beginning of the team’s F1 story in 1976, won the 1980 German Grand Prix at Hockenheim (picture-below) and finished 4th in the standings.
