What an eventful 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix! Here are my Monday morning thoughts:
- Wonderful to see Pierre Gasly (photo) finish second in the Toro Rosso. The Frenchman endured a difficult start of the season with Red Bull Racing, but since at Toro Rosso, he seems to be much more at ease and is regularly faster than team-mate Kvyat. What an irony that he scores his first podium with Scuderia Toro Rosso, something he was far from achieving at RBR.
- Gutted for Alex Albon, who drove well, made brilliant passes and deserved to score his first podium finish but was denied by an ‘optimistic’ Lewis Hamilton who later elegantly apologized.
- Ferrari catastrophe: When you look at the footage, it’s clear that Vettel moves unnecessarily to the left. This double retirement is 90% Vettel’s fault.
- Another well deserved podium is the one finally granted to Carlos Sainz who is very solid all season and who moved from P20 at the start to P3, great recovery, and fantastic result for McLaren.
- Finally, superb victory for Max Verstappen and Red Bull-Honda, Max was on top of his game all week-end, led the race with authority and scored a beautiful victory that he already should have scored last year.
