In the middle of the 70s, Bernie Ecclestone federated the Formula 1 teams under the banner “F1CA” (Formula 1 Constructors Association) and decided to award a trophy (picture-above) to the best-placed team in a non-yet created constructors’ championship.
In fact, the creator of this art piece was at the time… in prison! A long-time friend of Mister E., Roy James (picture-below, invited at the Brazilian Grand Prix in 1979), had been condemned to 12 years in prison in 1966 for the “Hold-up of the Century” (the Glasgow-London postal train) in his “Getaway Driver” role, because of his racing drivers’ past, and became a sculptor serving his time in prison.
