Stirling Moss, caught by a photographer chatting with one of his mechanics, while his VW5 Vanwall is inspected by an attentive spectator, before the start of the 1958 French Grand Prix, held on the Reims-Gueux circuit.

Stirling Moss, Tony Brooks and Stuart Lewis-Evans were retained by Vanwall for the 1958 season. Moss won in Holland, Portugal and Morocco (photo below), while Brooks prevailed in Belgium, Germany and Italy, giving Vanwall the first ever Constructors’ Championship.

Moss lost by one point to Mike Hawthorn in the drivers’ championship, and Tony Brooks finished third. This successful season for the Vanwall team was unfortunately overshadowed when Lewis-Evans lost his life in an accident during the final round of the championship in Morocco.
