Trouble at Riverside

Geoff Lees (Lola T333 CS Chevrolet of Racing Team VDS) and Keke Rosberg (Spyder NF-11 Chevrolet entered by Newman-Freeman Racing) are not giving each other any quarter, at the start of the Riverside round of the 1979 Can-Am series.

Behind these two fast and furious: Geoff Brabham (Hogan HR-001 Chevrolet of the Hogan Racing), Jacky Ickx and Alan Jones (in the two Lolas entered by Carl Haas) observe the proceedings.

Geoff Lees, Alan Jones and Keke Rosberg, too hot-headed, will be forced to retire due to accidents, and it is Jacky Ickx (photo below) who will prevail at the wheel of his Lola T333 CS Chevrolet entered by Carl Haas, ahead of Bobby Rahal and his Prophet-Chevrolet, and Elliot Forbes-Robinson a good third on the second Spyder NF-11 Chevrolet.
