The 1993 South African Grand Prix was held at Kyalami and was the first race of the 1993 Formula One calendar. Alain Prost, after one year on the sidelines, a sabbatical, won the race from pole position in his Williams FW15c-Renault, with Ayrton Senna in a McLaren-Ford second and Mark Blundell third in a Ligier-Renault. This first victory ahead of his Brazilian rival, set the tone for the whole season.
