We are in the ancient paddock of the Nürburgring before practice for the 1964 German Grand Prix: Dutch nobleman Karel Pieter Antoni Jan Hubertus Godin de Beaufort, Lord of Maarn, prepares to tackle the green hell of the Nordschleife at the wheel of his pretty orange private Porsche 718, entered by his own team ‘Écurie Maarsbergen’.
Sadly, the aristocrat will not return after a violent crash at Bergwerk (picture here-under). He had taken 28 starts in Formula 1 since 1957 in a Maserati and then in a Porsche.
