The good life and a bygone era
Graham Hill enjoys his victory lap in his Lotus 49 after winning the 1968 Monaco Grand Prix. Note the few spectators and this magnificent view, a testament to the good life and a bygone era…
The 1968 Monaco Grand Prix was the third of 12 rounds of the Formula One World Championship and was won by Graham Hill, his fourth victory in the Principality, from pole position.
Richard Attwood , driving a BRM, took second place and the fastest lap, while Lucien Bianchi finished third (four laps behind!) in a Cooper. For both drivers, this would remain the only podium of their F1 careers.
A wonderful photo by Rainer W. Schlegelmilch below, punctuating the nostalgia for a bygone era mentioned at the beginning of the article – see the photographers positioned under the guard rails.
