Targa 1971
For the 55th edition of the Targa Florio in 1971, Porsche brought the fast and agile 908/3, specially developed for this specific race. As usual, the factory was represented by the John Wyer Automotive Engineering – Team Gulf who entered two cars. One for Pedro Rodriguez and Herbert Müller and the other one for Jo Siffert and Brian Redman.

The Martini International Racing Team brought a third works 908/3 for Targa specialist Vic Elford and French ace Gérard Larrousse.
During the race, all three Porsches were forced to retire and victory went to local hero, Sicilian Nino Vaccarella and Dutch Sports-Car specialist Toine Hezemans in their mighty Alfa Romeo T33/3 (picture below), while the Lola mentioned above, finished in fine third.
