So much promise…

Formula One rising star Tony Brise, in the cockpit of his Hill GH1-Ford (picture-above), is certainly describing the handling of his car to team owner, racing legend and two-time World Champion Graham Hill, ahead of the 1975 British Grand Prix held at Silverstone. Notice, no radio available then to communicate with your driver.

Tony Brise had joined the Embassy Hill team at the sixth round of the 1975 season in Belgium and over the next few races showed a lot of promise, recording some very fast qualifying times and frequently outperforming his team-mate, Alan Jones. However, a combination of technical issues prevented him from ever finishing in the top 5, and he took just one championship point, with a fine sixth in Sweden.

He was widely considered as a bright hope and one to watch in the future, but sadly Hill and Brise, along with the team’s designer and three mechanics, perished on 25 November 1975 in the Piper Aztec piloted by Hill, that crashed in thick fog while returning to London from a test session at Le Castellet.
