The Ferrari 156, soon named “Sharknose” because of it’s distinctive front end, was a racing car made by Ferrari in 1961 to comply with the then-new Formula One regulations that reduced engine size from 2.5- to 1.5-litres.

Phil Hill, seen here behind the car driven by Belgian Willy Mairesse at the 1962 Belgian Grand Prix, won the 1961 World Championship of Drivers at the wheel of the 156.

Willy Mairesse, a very fast and fearless driver, is seen listening to engineer Mauro Forghieri, in the pitlane of Spa-Francorchamps in 1962. He qualified his Ferrari 156 in sixth position, but heavily crashed the car on lap 25.

The race was won by Jim Clark (Lotus-Climax), followed by Graham Hill (BRM) and Phil Hill (Ferrari).
