Mario Andretti and Pedro Rodriguez (at the wheel) shared this beautiful Ferrari 365/P2, chassis #0838, at the 1966 12 Hours of Sebring. Look at this very fragile-looking roll bar! The car had some transmission problems during the race and was forced to retire.

Knowledgeable reader Luc Ghys remembers: “Near Webster Turn, Andretti missed a gear, spun and hurtled into the bank, then collided with Don Webster’s Porsche Carrera 6 which dived through the fence and killed 4 people standing in a no-go zone. Andretti made it back to the pits but during the repairs, the Ferrari caught fire and was retired.”

Winners of these 1966 Sebring 12 Hours were Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby in their Shelby-American Inc-entered Ford GT40 X1-Roadster (picture-below), who were 12 laps ahead of Mark Donohue and Walt Hangsen in their Holman & Moody Ford GT40 Mk.II when they crossed the finishing line.
