Two times Daytona 24 Hours winner, Belgian Didier Theys tell us about the 1997 edition.

“In 1997 we had a great chance to win. We had the Moretti Racing Ferrari 333SP, a very good and reliable car that we knew very well, and my team-mates were fast and reliable.”

“On this picture you can see us practicing driver’s change. Gianpiero Moretti is sitting in the car, Derek Bell is wearing the Union Jack helmet, Brazilian Antonio Hermann with the yellow and green helmet and myself. It’s very important to practice driver’s change, because you need to do it in less than 25 seconds, the time it takes to refuel.”

“I was leading the race when a broken injector set the engine on fire… It took us two hours to repair, so our chances of victory were gone. We finally finished 7th of a race that could have been ours.”

Victory went to the Dyson Riley & Scott MK III – Ford driven by seven (!) drivers : Forbes-Robinson, Dyson, Schneider, Wallace, Weaver, Paul Jr. and Leitzinger.
