Eddie Cheever qualified a superb fourth in his Alfa Romeo 185T at the 1985 Monaco Grand Prix. The American was only 0.279 sec slower than pole man Ayrton Senna in his Lotus-Renault, a fantastic achievement.
Eddie Cheever remembers: “Monaco was my highlight of the Formula One season. To get to race on the same track that Fangio, Clark, Moss, Stewart, Peterson, and so many other legendary drivers competed on, was such a privilege.”
Less luck in the race for the American, who had to retire on lap 10 with engine trouble. Alain Prost (McLaren-TAG) won the race.
