In 1994, Flavio Briatore had just bought the Ligier team, with the intention to recuperate the Renault engines for the Benettons the following season, and he placed his future driver Johnny Herbert at the wheel of a blue car (picture-above), instead of Eric Bernard.

The French driver, deprived of his drive at Ligier, recuperated Herbert’s at Lotus at the European Grand Prix at Jerez (picture-below) in a curious operation of musical chairs. It would be the last appearance of Bernard in Formula 1 and the end of the moribund Team Lotus, that would not rise again, the following season.
