“If F1 really wants to go green then we should stay home and forget the racing.” – Kimi Raikkonen.

“There is a limit in what Formula 1 can do as far as promoting environmental messages”, says Finn.

Lewis Hamilton has recently expressed his concern about climate change, and his desire to become ‘carbon neutral’ by the end of the year. Although Raikkonen indicated he holds similar views, he believes F1 is not the best place to promote environmental messages.

“Obviously this matter, I think involves everybody who lives on this planet,” he said. “In the end we all try to do what we can.”

“But honestly we are probably not in the best place to start making big stories out of it, because in the end we’re burning fuel for what ? To be first, second ?”

“F1 is not the strongest place to tell people what we should do, because to really go that route we should then stay home and forget about racing. It’s a crazy subject in many ways to go into, especially on a race weekend.”
