Mark Donohue stands in the pit lane at Laguna Seca next to his #003 Sunoco-Porsche Porsche 917/30 entered by Roger Penske Enterprises, while behind him can be seen his reserve car (T-car), the #002 917/30, during practice before the 1973 Can-Am Championship.
The American would outrageously dominate the 1973 Can-Am: out of the eight races in the championship, he would win six, leaving only one to Charlie Kemp and another to George Follmer. It must be said that his 917/30 with its insane power, up to 1600 horsepower (!) coming from its 5.4L flat-12 engine fed by two turbos, would “kill” this championship by discouraging the competition.
