Tyrrell rules in Sweden
The 1974 Swedish Grand Prix was held at Anderstorp on 9 June 1974 and was dominated by the two Tyrrells 007-Cosworth of South African Jody Scheckter and French driver Patrick Depailler (picture above), who had started from the front row with Depailler in pole position.
The two blue cars led early on while Niki Lauda (Ferrari) and James Hunt (Hesketh) duelled for 20 laps before Hunt got passed on lap 66 and began slicing into the Tyrrell’s lead at two seconds a lap.
In the end, Scheckter held on to take his first F1 race win by 0.38s over Depailler and Hunt took third place (just 3 seconds adrift), the Hesketh team first Formula One points.

It’s the first Grand Prix victory for Scheckter and Depailler’s best result so far in F1. The Frenchman will have to wait till the 1978 Monaco Grand Prix, to finally win a Formula One race.
