Jody and the Wolf

South African Jody Scheckter left Tyrrell and its six-wheeler for Walter Wolf‘s new team in 1977, and gave Wolf a sensational win in its maiden race in Argentina.

He won twice more that year, like here (picture above) at Monaco and was regularly on the podium, but finished runner-up in the drivers’ championship, a great achievement for the new team and its driver, to a dominant Niki Lauda (Ferrari).

The Wolf WR1 (picture below), designed by engineer Harvey Postlethwaite, had an aluminium monocoque and was powered by the ever-competitive Ford Cosworth DFV V8 (2,993cc) engine. A simple, beautiful and efficient design, and Jody Scheckter made great use of it.
