The 1974 Spa 1000 km was won by Jean-Pierre Jarier and Jacky Ickx (pictured above) driving one of the two Matra 670Cs entered. The Gulf Mirage GR7-Ford of Derek Bell and Mike Hailwood pushed the blue car to its limits, and the French team was delighted to have signed Ickx, who was always an asset on this fast circuit.

Jean-Pierre Jarier, nicknamed “Leadfoot” for his speed and bravery, born on July 10, 1946, is a former French racing driver who participated in 134 Formula 1 Grand Prix between 1971 and 1983. He achieved three podium finishes and three pole positions and deserved to win Grand Prix, as he was often in the lead and dominant, but very unlucky.

Also excellent in endurance racing, in 1974 for example, he won the 1000 km of Spa with Ickx (see above), the 1000 km of the Nürburgring, the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen, the 1000 km of Brands Hatch and the 6 Hours of Castellet, associated three times with Jean-Pierre Beltoise, always on a Matra MS670C.
