Jackie & Jackie

They were team mates the year before (1967) in Formula 2 by Ken Tyrrell, before becoming fierce rivals in Formule 1 (picture above) the very next year: Jackie Stewart could have signed with Ferrari, but his requirements were not met by the Commendatore, and the Scuderia chose to sign the young Jackie (with an “e” at the time) Ickx.

They both missed the world title that year, the Matra-Ford of the Scot not always being competitive, while the Belgian was struck by bad luck: without a huge accident at the Canadian Grand Prix at Mont-Tremblant (picture below), because of a stuck throttle at full speed, he could have become World Champion for his first season in F1!
