The 1965 French Grand Prix was held at the Circuit de Charade on 27 June 1965. It was race 4 of 10 in both drivers’ and manufacturers’ championship. Jim Clark (Lotus) won this French Grand Prix ahead of Jackie Stewart (BRM) and John Surtees (Ferrari). A Scottish 1-2.

Picture above: Jo Bonnier who had to abandon his Brabham-Climax and Innes Ireland, who did the same with his Lotus-BRM, hitch a lift on top of Richie Ginther’s Honda RA272 at the 1965 French Grand Prix. Notice the surroundings of the track and its limits: rocks, sand, ditches… of the beautiful and dangerous track of Charade.

The 40-lap race was thus won by Scotland’s Jim Clark (picture below), driving a Lotus 25-Climax. Clark, utterly dominant during this 1965 season, took pole position, led every lap and set fastest lap. It was his third win in four races, and his second Grand Slam of the season.
