Emerson Fittipaldi left Team Lotus at the end of 1973, not feeling sufficiently supported by Colin Chapman, and signed for McLaren, with the blessing of Marlboro and Texaco, who were happy to welcome the Brazilian, the 1972 world champion.

A good transfer indeed, because at the wheel of the excellent McLaren M23 designed by Gordon Coppuck, Fittipaldi won three Grand Prix in 1974, reached the podium four times, beat Clay Regazzoni (Ferrari) by a hair’s breadth, and won his second title.

The following season, he won two Grand Prix and reached the podium four times, always at the wheel of the valiant M23, but could not prevent Niki Lauda and his Ferrari 312T from dominating the season. Picture-below: Emerson Fittipaldi won the 1975 Argentinian Grand Prix.
