Argentine driver José Froilán González, attacking at the wheel of his Maserati A6GCM entered by Officine Alfieri Maserati, is on his way to third place in the 1953 French Grand Prix run on the Reims-Gueux circuit.
This 1953 French Grand Prix was the fifth of the nine rounds counting for the drivers’ championship. Maserati engaged Juan Manuel Fangio, José Froilán Gonzalez, Onofre Marimón and Felice Bonetto to take on the Ferraris of Alberto Ascari, Luigi Villoresi, Nino Farina and Mike Hawthorn.
Finally, it was Mike Hawthorn (Ferrari) who narrowly beat Juan Manuel Fangio (photo below), after a battle that lasted 60 laps, where the two drivers overtook each other in every corner of the circuit! Gonzalez finished a good third in their wake.
