Forghieri and aerodynamics
Belgian racing driver Eric van de Poele, exclusively for the ‘Human Side of Racing’, remembers a Formula One test he conducted for the Modena Lamborghini team at Imola in 1991:
“The Lambo 291 designed by Mauro Forghieri was a rather eye-catching and sleek looking chassis, with it’s distinctive blue colour scheme, triangular side pods and slanting radiators”.
“All the other Formula One cars featured rectangular side pods and Mauro Forghieri our Technical Director wanted to be sure his concept was the right one”.
“He then asked me to test more conventional side pods (picture above), and I remember not being impressed by these modifications. We then decided to continue with the original ones”.
“It was a fantastic period for me, very proud to have been part of the Lamborghini story in Formula One and to work with a legend like Mauro Forghieri.”
