The 1986 Monaco Grand Prix was won from pole position by Frenchman Alain Prost, driving a McLaren Tag Porsche. This was Prost’s third consecutive Monaco win. His teammate Keke Rosberg finished second and Ayrton Senna was third in a Lotus-Renault.

Alain Prost recalls: “I’ve got only good memories of Monaco, in particular this fabulous 1986 Grand Prix. I had the impression that my McLaren was a toy in my hands. I could do whatever I wanted. The settings, the balance, the speed… Everything seemed so easy, evident. I was untouchable.”

Alain continues: “In the late stages of the race, I knew my team mate Keke Rosberg in second had no chance to catch me, and I tried to lift. But I didn’t succeed! I had just experienced the perfect race, this happens once or twice only in a career.”

Alain Prost became the 1986 World Champion (his second consecutive crown) after a thrilling final at Adelaide, where against all odds he defeated the Williams’ of Mansell and Piquet.
