Drivers fraternity… before the race only! From left to right: Andrea de Adamich, Nanni Galli, Arturo Merzario, Ignazio Giunti, Pedro Rodriguez and Brian Redman (winner of these 1970 Imola 500 km).
Brian Redman, alone at the wheel of his JW Automotive-entered Porsche 917K, dominated the 100 laps race and had a three laps advantage at the checkered flag, over the works Autodelta Alfa Romeo T33/3 of Galli-de Adamich.
Pedro Rodriguez in the sister 917K was forced to retire early on, while crowd favourites Merzario and Giunti (Ferrari 512S #1) fought hard from pole position (picture below), but retired in the closing stages because of a… broken gear lever!
