On the 6th of October 1973, a coalition of Arab states led by Egypt and Syria attacked the small State of Israël on Yom Kippour, the holiest day in Judaism. As a 12 year-old, with my camarades, I was listening to the news on the radio, hour by hour, worried for the well-being of friends and family.
I was already a big Formula One fan, and the same day, we got the news that François Cevert had been killed in a terrible accident, during practice for the 1973 US Grand Prix at Watkins Glen. I was devastated, and for me, this date is forever linked to both tragic events.
François Cevert, the F1 star. Beauty, skill, charm and a broken destiny. Because you can’t win like this, across the board. That’s how life is, with its own logic. Cevert combined all the best of F1 in its most romantic years.
I will never get tired of adding photographs of him, because each of these tells us a beautiful and poignant story. Fifty years already… it seems like yesterday.
