Ronnie Peterson, March 721G-Ford, in a perfectly controlled slide during the 1972 Austrian Grand Prix, held at the Österreichring (also called Zeltweg at the time). The Swede, known for his sublime car control, fought his ill-handling car all through the race, and finished in 12th, two laps down on Emerson Fittipaldi (Lotus 72-Ford).
Sir Jackie Stewart remembered: “I’d follow him into a corner and think, Oh Ronnie, this time you’ve overdone it. You’re a goner! But he always seemed to get the car back somehow.” Nicknamed “Superswede” Peterson won 10 Grand Prix, obtained 26 podiums, 14 pole positions and 206 career points. He is seen here-below wrestling the Tyrrell P34/2 at the 1977 Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
