Camaraderie
The 2nd Race of Champions was a non-championship motor race, run to Formula One rules and held on 12 March 1967 at Brands Hatch in two heats and a final.
Real camaraderie is evident on the picture-above taken before the start. We recognise from left to right: Dan Gurney, Jack Brabham (the reigning world champion), Bruce McLaren, Richie Ginther, Denny Hulme, Jochen Rindt and Graham Hill.
The grid positions for the first heat were decided by a qualifying session, and Dan Gurney took pole position in his Eagle-Weslake, and the grid for the second heat was determined by the finishing order of the first heat. Similarly, the finishing order of the second heat decided the grid order for the final.
Dan Gurney (picture-below) dominated the event by winning both heats and the final, taking fastest lap in both heats. The American crossed the finishing line just ahead of the Ferrari of Lorenzo Bandini and the Cooper-Maserati of Jo Siffert.
