The 1958 Le Mans 24 Hours were marked by fifteen hours of torrential rain. It celebrated the first ever overall win for an American and a Belgian driver and was the third win for the Scuderia Ferrari.

Olivier Gendebien and Phil Hill (picture above) aboard their works Ferrari 250 TR/58, drove flawlessly and crossed the finishing line with an 8-lap advantage on the Aston Martin DB3S of Peter and Graham Whitehead.

Together, these two great drivers will win the 24 Hours of Le Mans, three times: in 1958, 1961 and 1962, always in a Ferrari.

Olivier Gendebien will add a fourth Le Mans victory to his tally, when with fellow Belgian Paul Frère, he won the 1960 edition again for Ferrari. (picture below).
