In 1958, she became the first woman to take the start of a Formula One Grand Prix: she was even classified in tenth (but last) position at Spa at the wheel of a Maserati 250F, and so writing history in motorsports.
From Roman aristocracy, Maria Teresa de Filippis was a competent and fearless racing driver. Non-qualified for her debut at Monaco, she was in 5th position at her national Grand Prix at Monza, when she had to retire because of mechanical problems, a few laps before the finish. (picture here-under).
