The Ford GT40 Roadster of Bob Bondurant and John Whitmore speeds through a Sicilian village during the 1965 Targa Florio (picture-above). The pretty roadster did not finish the race though, being eliminated in an accident.
The Scuderia Ferrari deployed three of its new prototype-class 3.3L 275P2. Porsche responded with the 904 Bergspyder, an open, lightweight, hillclimbing prototype based on the 904/8. Ford replaced the under-performing Cobras with a single GT40 roadster.
The race was ultimately dominated by the Ferrari 275 P2 driven by works drivers Vaccarella and Bandini, while the Bergspyder finished a fine second with Colin Davis and Gerhard Mitter at the wheel (picture-below).
