A legend at Francorchamps
Emerson Fittipaldi took the wheel of the Copersucar F5A-Cosworth he drove in Formula One back in 1978, yesterday at Spa-Francorchamps.
The two-time Formula One World Champion (1972 and 1974) and Indianapolis 500 winner (1989 and 1993) was happy and emotional to be present in Belgium and I was delighted to have a chat with the great Brazilian champion:
“Today I was very happy to see the F5A again, sit in it and feel all the fantastic moments I spent in that car”, said Fittipaldi, “I have never driven at Francorchamps before, the track is technical and the car felt great and familiar. Driving here is a lot of emotion, very special. Thanks God for the opportunity.”
… and thank you Emerson for the nice chat (Fittipaldi being surprisingly fluent in French), a great moment for me (see picture below).
