Impressive. Dutch ace Gijs van Lennep seen jumping over the crests at the 1974 Nurburgring 1000 km. The works Porsche Carrera RSR Turbo he shared with Swiss driver Herbert Müller finished 6th overall, behind the much faster sports-prototypes.
The driver from Holland was very competent in the eight Formula One races he entered, however his main achievements were in sports car racing. Amongst many victories, he won the 24 Hours twice, in 1971 with Helmut Marko and in 1976 with Jacky Ickx.
At the 1000 km of the Nürburgring, it was the pairing Jarier-Beltoise (picture below), in their Matra-Simca MS670C, who took victory, one lap ahead of the Stommelen-Reutemann Alfa Romeo T33/TT/12.
