But what was Jacky Ickx doing in the small category for 1600cc cars at the 1978 24 Hours of Spa? He was driving alongside Brian Redman, a VW Scirocco entered by well known VW importer D’Ieteren.

Unfortunately, suspension problems repeatedly caused punctures that damaged the body work, which forced the mechanics to “borrow” body parts (see picture above) on privately owned cars found on the parking lot!

Notice the large number of spectators, all around the track (it was the last edition of the 24 Hours, held on the 14 km circuit), including all along the guardrails at the bottom of the Raidillon at the Eau Rouge (picture below).
