The Targa Florio was in 1970 the oldest motor race in the world, even older that the Isle of Man TT and the Indianapolis 500. First run in 1906, it was run on narrow public mountain roads, that went up and down, and twisted and turned around the Sicilian country side.
Porsche dominated the 1970 edition with its powerful and lightweight John Wyer-entered Porsche 908/03, driven by the excellent pairings: Siffert / Redman (1st) and Kinnunen / Rodriguez (2nd).
Picture above: Piers Courage and Andrea de Adamich (driving), Alfa Romeo T33/3, took fourth place in this 1970 edition of the Targa. Just in front of them, third place went to the works Ferrari 512S of local boy Nino Vaccarella and Ignazio Giunti (picture below).
