José Carlos Pace was a racing driver from Brazil. He participated in 73 Formula One Grand Prix, debuting in 1972. He won one race, the 1975 Brazilian Grand Prix, achieved 6 podiums and secured one pole position.

For 1973, Pace moved to the Surtees team in both Formula One and Formula 2. He showed a lot of promise by scoring an excellent fourth place at the German Grand Prix on the mighty Nürburgring and his first podium finish at Zeltweg in the Austrian Grand Prix.

Pace finished 11th in the final standings with 7 points. Jackie Stewart (Tyrrell) became World Champion for the third time.

Carlos Pace is seen here talking to team boss, and 1964 World Champion John Surtees, at Anderstorp (Sweden), where he finished 10th (picture below), 3 laps down on winner Denny Hulme (McLaren).
