Canadian businessman Lawrence Stroll, owner of Formula 1 team Racing Point, is preparing a bid to take a major stake in  Aston Martin, as reported by Autocar magazine.

Shares of Aston Martin, soared 15% when the rumor came out on Thursday. The British sports car maker’s share price had slumped since it’s flotation in October last year. The share launched at 19 pounds ($24.50) before dropping for months and stabilizing around 5 pounds for months as sales failed to meet expectations. The Canadian and his associates saw this as an opportunity.

Lawrence Stroll, who is the father of … Racing Point driver Lance Stroll, is reported to head a consortium looking to take a ‘substantial and controlling’ share in Aston Martin.

Some imagine a quick rebranding of Racing Point into Aston Martin Racing Point, but such a move is expected to happen in 2021 only.

Let’s wait and see.
