Deserted pits

Pedro Rodriguez, BRM driver, relaxes in good company (his partner Glenda) in what appears to be the deserted stand of… De Tomaso (see photo above in full), before the start of the 1970 British Grand Prix, run on the hilly Brands Hatch circuit.

The De Tomaso, entered by Frank Williams, was originally Piers Courage’s car, but the English driver had been killed during the 1970 Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort a few weeks earlier, and Brian Redman replaced him.

Here at Brands Hatch, Pedro Rodriguez qualified only in sixteenth position, not satisfied with the behavior of his BRM, and was forced to retire from the race, while Brian Redman (picture-below) did not even start, his De Tomaso’s engine broken, which explains his empty garage before the start of the Grand Prix.
